Everyone has an opinion on what it means to belong. I personally thing to belong means to belong in a specific group of people/sport/ect who accept you for who you are and people who know your past. It’s a special place for you when they won’t leave you even though hey know your faults. Your belong are they people who stay by yourside no matter what faults you have or what you go through in life because you’re family.
The Block Independant Blog Post
The book the Loop by Ben Oliver didn’t end the way I thought it would. So I started reading the Block the second book of The Loop series. I like Luka. He tricked the guard Jacob so he can open his cell so he can run away.

The big ideas/idea of the Block is jail and death. I feel that the author Oliver is trying to express is be careful with the decisions you make because you can be sentenced to life in jail if you make a really bad mistake in life.
Empowerment on Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone
I feel that the big idea in Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone is empowerment. I feel that because in the beginning of the book he lets his aunt and uncle have power because he didn’t realize that he could take the power instead until Hagrid had stepped in when Hagrid had went to get Harry for Hogwarts. I feel that during the book harry had learned to take control while being at Hogwarts when he was defeating Voldemort.
Harry Potter is a hero because he defeats Voldemort with the stone. When Harry touches the stone it gives him a power to burn. So, when Harry had touched Voldemort he had started turning into ashes ends up in the hospital and gets awarded 60 points to Gryffondor.

Technology being to far and being reliant on technology
Going on technology and playing games and having social media is okay. Its when you make poor decisions on social media like cyberbullying then thats too far or going on the deep web is too far. Like we saw on the infographic of deep web thats too far. Yes, we are very reliant on technology to translate something from another language to English or English to that other language help us with a class other than a language class.
What does this chapter say about fathers? Why would ZIts’ father have this memory and how would it affect his decision in the end? What are some affects of this that echo through Zits’ life?
Some fathers can be abusive with words or actions when they don’t get what they want. Zits’ dad has this memory of his dad telling him that he is a piece of shit and because Zits’ grandfather got that into Zits’ dads head Zits dad more likely didn’t think he would be a good father because Zits’ grandfather got it into Zits’ father head that he isn’t worth anything. Zit has always thought that he wasn’t good enough for anyone and that he was a piece of shit. Son like father thinking the same thing because of something. Zits more likely always thought he was a piece of shit because his father didn’t stick around and Zits’ grandfather got it into Zits’ dads head tha he is a piece of shit because he didn’t bring anything back home after hunting.
How many books that have been challenged in the past do you think you’ve read? What are the top reasons that books are challnged? What are different reasons why this book (flight) could be controversial? What are issues in this book that are issues to teens?
Honestly, I don’t know. I’ve read so many books that if some were challenged I have probably read that book I have read in the past year a few times. I’ve read a book about rape. It was just a random book that I had picked up cause I thought the book name was cool. Some parents would probably not allow that book in their house. But other parents may be like read what you want. Flight would more likely be challenged because of the language in there. There’s a lot of cussing words and some sexual words in there and a parent would more likely see that inappropriate. And I wouldn’t blame them because of the words. But I’m sure a lot of books that I have read has been challenged. People may have issues with the racism. Zits being racist towards white people and white people being racist towards Zits. Some people are or can be racist towards others whether they are colored or not or the same color or not. And some teens may have issues with racism.
Theme in Flight
In the book Flight there are many theme’s but I’m gonna talk about Manipulation. Manipulation fits in this from Justice. Justice says”What if this Ghost dance is real? What if you can bring back your parents” (Alexie 32)? That is manipulation. Another one Justice says is “What if you could resurrent your parents with these? Would you kill a white man if it brought back your mother” (Alexie 32)? Not only is that manipulation but it is also violence. Justice says “Now you can dance. Now you understand. Now you have the knowledge. What are you going to do with that power” (Alexie 34)? That is violence and manipulation. People manipulate others to get what they want.
Similarities and Differences between Flight and Teens Today
Similarities

Emotions-
Still face drug abuse, alcohol abuse, and mental health issues.
People abuse drugs and alcohol to “forget” about their problems instead of working out their problems . The problems could be school, home, family, friends, and or work and so because you have this problem you just want to forget about it. Or a family member died that means thw world to you and you don’t wanna deal with the lost becaus it hurts to much so you go and do drugs and drink and drink and drink ruining your health, ruining everything you have ever worked for, family, friends, and putting the people who care most about in sadness.

Violence- People who have drug and alcohol problems can be violent with people who care about them, who are mean to them, and people who just want to throw their life away because they don’t like how their life is or who is in it. Police target colored kids and not always colored kids. A police officer targets Zits and he’s technically colored with being Native American and was brought down by a police officer.

Loneliness-

When you move to a new state/town/school you don’t know people until you get to know them and you feel lonely. Or maybe even cell phones make people feel lonely because of bullying. People may feel lonely with moving to a new town or being bullied and no one is sticking up for you or even your friends being in a relationship and you not having a partner by your side to help walk with you through everything.
Differences
Emotions-
9 Tips to Help Teens Deal with Their Emotionshttps://www.connectionsacademy.com/support/resources/article/9-tips-for-dealing-with-teen-emotions/

Technology can make students suicidal, lonely and violent because of the social media like bullying happens on social media andbecause of that it can make someone feel bad about themselves and want to change themselves when they shouldn’t have to change themselves because others want them too.
Violence-
Teen aggression and arguementshttps://www.nhs.uk/mental-health/children-and-young-adults/advice-for-parents/teen-aggression-and-arguments/#:~:text=Sometimes%2C%20teen%20aggression%20can%20turn,not%20helping%2C%20call%20the%20police.

Bullying happens and when bullying happens it causes a school shooting or the shooter will go to the bully’s work, house, or anywhere they can find the bully to “teach” them a lesson. There really isn’t any bullying going on in flight. Zits just wants to have parents and feel loved by anyone who will love him.
Loneliness-
Why Loneliness Affects Young People More Often Than Older Adults

Social Media is on a cell phone, tablet, or computer. Social Media is everywhere, and not everyone notices it. In Flight, they don’t have any of these. People want to feel connected to other people and we use Social Media for that and when people don’t want to talk to us we feel lonely.
What books have you read (or been exposed to) that you feel should not be accessible to children or teens? WHy or why not? What books have you read that you think ‘adults’ may have an issue with? Why would they?
It really all depends on the book. Flight would not be a kid appropriate book. Flight should be a high school or adult book only. After reading Flight I was on chapter 9 telling my mom about the book and I got into detail and she said that’s a book that children under 15 shouldn’t read but if other people parents allow it that under that age that fine because they aren’t her kids. That wouldn’t be a book for my sister to read at all and she is 11 but she would be a lot more mature about the book than most of the teenage boys are. But my mom also feels that the kid/teen can read whatever they want within reason. Like if my sister went home and said “hey mom there is this book that says these words in it” and my mom would be like “you’re not old enough for that book” because she is 11 but another kid could go to their home and be like “dad there’s this book called flight that I’m reading in LA and it has these words in it and this lanunguage” and that dad could be like “ok” and not even care. it all depends on the parents and or teen.
There was this one book I read and one of the characters had been raped which is a sensitive topic but the character was talking about I and some adults may have a problem with a book like that. Or adults may have a problem with reading Flight. I asked my mom if she would read it and she said no so I took that answer but it’s a good book. But it all depends on the human being because everyone is different.
What from chapters 4 and/ 5 can connect to the article we discussed today?
One of my ideas in the article that connects to the book flight go very well together. In chapter 5 Zit or now so-called “Hank” and Art meet up with Elk and Horse and they have this kid named junior with them and they had beaten then. But Art threatens to shoot Junior if Junior doesn’t give him the information he wants. The quote that connects with that is “Russel Means began negotiations for the release of the hostages”. Art was telling Junior to tell him or he dies. And as it seems is that Junior wanted to die because he didn’t speak out.
